Not another one! J.T. Thomas's arrest Monday makes him the second Chicago Bear in recent months to face drug charges. Police pulled him over in West Virginia when they notice him driving the wrong way down a one way street. The Bears are starting to look more and more like the Cowboys from the early 90's. I wonder if Lovie Smith has attempted to call Nate Newton and Michael Irvin out of retirement to fill a couple open roster spots. What happened to the days when gambling was the problem. How he actually got caught is the good part. An officer stated that he smelled marijuana in the vehicle, and when Thomas went to get his insurance out of the glove box several small bags of weed fell onto the floor. This is pretty unbelievable after seeing the drama of Sam Hurd unfold. If these millionaire athletes really feel they don't make enough honest money then they need to at least smarten up. Sam Hurd used his real name in phone conversations, and even told the undercover agent he played for the Bears and could meet him after practice. Fast forward a few months and Thomas opens his glove box only to have bags of pot fall out right in front of a police officer. Now I'm no drug dealer (and also not a promoter of them), but it seems to me these two had no business attempting to be. If you don't have the sense to use an alias, in Sam Hurd's case, you deserve anything that happens to you. Even if it wasn't an undercover police officer he was dealing with, someone could have blackmailed him for everything he was worth. As for J.T. Thomas, to have bags of drugs fall out in front of a cop does not seem as if he was taking many precautions. At least hide it under the seat. J.T., do you really think if your car is searched they aren't going to check the glove box? Get real man. The irony of Thomas's arrest is that he was in the middle of a road trip promoting his charity which is centered on teaching leadership to the youth. What a great example of leadership your setting J.T.. This is not Thomas's first run in with the law. His freshman year at West Virginia he was arrested for transferring and receiving stolen property (a laptop computer). These charges were dropped however after he completed a diversionary program. As with Sam Hurd, this is not a huge blow to the Chicago Bear's roster strength. Thomas was signed as a rookie with the Bears in 2011, but spent the entire year on the Injured Reserve.
